典故
春秋时期，郑国子产奉郑简公之命，出访晋国。晋平公摆出大国架子，没有迎接他，并将他们打发到一个简陋的住处。子产便下令将这个住处的围墙拆掉，把车马开进去。
晋国大夫士文伯责备子产说道：“我国为保证诸侯来宾的安全，筑了高墙。你们怎么把墙拆了？”子产回答说：“我们郑国公来拜访晋国国君，不知道贵君何时得以召见。这住处十分破旧，门口窄小得拉不进车来，礼物放在门外怎么能安心？晋文公当政时对来宾可不是这样。那时住处宽敞漂亮，道路平整，招待得热情周到，像到家里一样。而今，你们的离宫宽广，住处却像奴隶住的小屋……”
士文伯回去向晋平公报告。晋平公自知理亏，便向子产认错道歉，热情接待了子产，并立刻下令兴工，重修住处。
In the Spring and Autumn Period, Zi Chan was sent by Duke Jian of Zheng on mission to visit the State of Jin. Duke Ping of Jin was haughty and impolite to him, and accommated them in a poor hotel. Zi Chan ordered to remove the wall of this hotel so that the carriage went in.
Shi Wenbo, the literati and officialdom of Jin, blamed Zi Chan and said, “We built a high wall to ensure the safety of the guests visiting our country. How did you demolish it?” Zi Chan replied, “We came to visit you, but we didn’t know when will be summoned. This hotel was really shabby and the doorway was too narrow to pull in the car. How can we rest assured that the gifts were outside the door? This was not the case for the guests when Duke Wen of Jin was in power: spacious and beautiful hotel, and smooth road. His hospitality made us feel at home. Now, your palace was spacious, but the hotel was like a lodge where slaves live ... ".
Shi Wenbo went back to report to Duke Ping of Jin. Feeling ashamed for this matter, Duke Ping of Jin apologized to Zi Chan. Then he showed a warm reception to Zi Chan, and ordered to rebuild the hotel.
